Do you sell retail as well as wholesale?

Yes, we have both retail and wholesale pricing and can handle a job from 1 roll of sod all the way to multiple semi loads.

Do you have a minimum order?

  • Kentucky Bluegrass Rye Blend: 1 roll = 10 sq ft
  • RTF: 500 sq. ft.
  • Big Rolls: 5,000 sq. ft.

What is the size of a roll?

5 ft x 2 ft = 10 sq ft

What is the lead time to get sod when I order?

Our sod is freshly cut each day to ensure top quality, so we ask for at least one day’s notice when placing an order.

Walk-ins are welcome for smaller orders (under 200 sq. ft.) and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that during summer or on our last open day of the week, we often sell out before the end of the day. We recommend calling ahead to check availability.

What days is sod available for pickup?

When you place your order our team will get you scheduled in for a pickup time. We offer pickup times during our normal business hours. On special request we can offer pickup times outside of business hours.

What are you office business hours?

Hours are subject to change during the year!

March – November:

Monday – Friday: 8am – 5pm (Closed 12-12:30pm for lunch)

Saturday: 8am – 12pm (Mid April – Mid October)

Sunday: CLOSED

December – February:

Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm

Saturday and Sunday: CLOSED

Do you deliver?

Yes we offer delivery. We use both our own truck and 3rd party trucks. Based on order size and distance, we can recommend the best delivery options for you.

How many sq. ft. are on a standard pallet?

Our standard pallets are 70 rolls per pallet = 700 sq. ft. By request we can cut your order in different size pallets. This is a great option if you have a pickup or trailer that cannot handle the weight of our standard pallets.

How much does a roll weigh?

1 roll = ~55lbs (+/- ~15lbs based on moisture levels)

How much does a standard pallet weigh?

1 pallet (700 sq. ft.) = ~4000lbs (+/- ~1000lbs based on moisture levels)

What are the dimensions of a pallet?

They vary but are about 4 ft. wide by 4 ft. long by 5 ft. tall.

Am I able to return sod if I order too much?

No! Sod is perishable so we do not accept returns. Selling extra on Facebook is a great option, if you do it right away.

How soon after I buy sod do I need to lay it?

Since sod is perishable the sooner you lay it the better.

  • Spring/Fall – Within 24 hours
  • Summer – Same day

What time of year is best to install sod?

Spring and fall are the best times due to milder temperatures. Summer heat stresses the sod and can cause it to dry out faster.

What type of sod do you grow?

How do I take care of my new sod?

  • Day 1: Water new sod enough to penetrate the sod 2” below the soil surface
  • Day 2-14: Water daily, once for at least 14 days to keep it moist (not saturated)
  • If the temperature is above 90° you may need to water twice a day
  • Stay off new sod for 14 days after installation
  • Once sod is rooted, go back to your regular watering schedule – 3x per week

When can I mow?

2-3 weeks after installation. Mow a little higher than regular the first time or two

When should I fertilize?

4-6 weeks after laying sod (Triple 15). 15-15-15 nitrogen/phosphorous/potassium fertilizer is recommended. (Available at McKellip Sod farm). Spring, Summer & fall 5lbs / 1000 sq ft.

Can I lay sod on prepared soil which has been fertilized?

If fertilizer is incorporated into the soil, it will be ok. If it is not well mixed into the soil it can burn the sod.

Are pallets refundable?

Yes, when they are returned within the same year we will give a full refund on each wooden pallet. We only accept our pallets because they are custom made to fit our sod harvesters.
