Rhizomatous Tall Fescue Sod

Rhizomatous Tall Fescue (RTF®) is not your typical tall fescue and is the only Patented Tall Fescue with true rhizomes. Those rhizomes help RTF quickly fill in damaged and bare spots in your turf with new shoots of grass. This results in less over-seeding, fewer weed problems and also helps it use up to 30% less water than other varieties. Learn more about the science behind RTF at the official RTF® website.

Why Choose RTF Sod?

Self-Repairing Technology

Unlike traditional tall fescues, RTF spreads through rhizomes—underground stems that allow the grass to fill in bare spots naturally over time.

Disease & Insect Resistance

RTF is endophyte enhanced which means fewer problems with insects and diseases.

Shade Tolerant

Performs better than many cool-season grasses in partial shade, making it a versatile choice for mixed-light lawns.

Improved Heat Tolerance

RTF stays lush and green even during Idaho’s hottest summer days. Its superior heat resilience makes it an excellent choice for sun-drenched lawns and properties.

Excellent Color and Density

Fine leaves that produce a dense uniform lawn that greens up early in the spring.

Exceptional Drought Tolerance

Deep root systems (up to 4 feet in ideal conditions) help RTF use water more efficiently and stay green with less irrigation.

Ideal Applications for RTF

This grass is tough, flexible and great for low-maintenance environments:

High-Traffic Areas

House with back yard

Ideal for parks, schools, utility corridors, or backyards where wear and tear is common.

Full Sun to Partial Shade

Sod install on commercial Job

Performs well even in spots that get less sunlight, unlike bluegrass which prefers full sun.
